SpectaRuler, Your Reliable Tool App for Accurate Measurements
One gets lost in the variety of applications offered today, all of which are theoretically excellent which is not true when it comes to their practical application.
The SpectaRuler, designed by Hollingtech Software, is the app that has excellent performance to support its promising theoretical features. The built-in camera allows for three choices of measurement taking: a) distance and height; b) distance and elevation; c) distance, height and width.
The actual process of taking a measurement takes a minute at most, yet setting the application for taking a correct measurement may take some time, or, to be more precise, about ten minutes.
For instance, to measure shoe size it is required to choose the right setting among the variety of shoe sizes (UK, USA, European, regular or athletic, man or women, etc.). The next step is the calibration of the device - a matter of a few seconds: the easiest way to do it is to press the iPhone in a doorstop for getting a hands-free fixation. Then it is necessary to follow the somewhat lengthy but very easy, explicit and absolutely crucial instructions about how to hold and angle the phone in order for taking accurate measurements.
The process, settings and instructions vary as per selected measurement choice. Yet, as a rule the first step after making the settings is taking a picture of the object to be measured holding the phone at eye level and placing the crosshair according to the instructions. The next step is taking six heel/toe steps to the object and taking another one or two pictures.
The only difficulty one may encounter here are the “x” markers on the screen which are not very well-responsive and it may take some time to drag them to the corners.
Upon completing all these operations the app will deliver the results of the measurements that can be further converted to suitable unit of measurement. At this point it is recommended to take a screenshot or jot down the results as the application does not have any saving option.
This budget yet very handy app is quite a reliable tool for taking measurement of smaller (such as furniture, or shoe size) as well as of much bigger objects (such as buildings or planes) – for both professional and fun purposes.
